There are as many ways to pray as there are personalities.

prayer We are committed to providing a basic understanding of prayer and its crucial role in living the Christian life. We don’t have the final word on prayer—no one ever will—but we can offer a foundational seedbed upon which you can build your knowledge and understanding of prayer, and more importantly deepen your experience of prayer.

Psalms
80408377

King David and many other holy poets composed the masterpiece of prayer known as the Psalms. These prayers address all possible human experiences and emotions, from highest of joys to the worst of despair. For millennia the Psalms have been prayed and sung in the Temple, the synagogue, the church, the cloister, the family dinner table, the hospital room, the bedroom.

The Psalms bridge the communal and the personal expressions of prayer. When you cannot find your own words to pray, turn to the Psalms.

Surely, the best known is Psalm 23.

“The Lord is my Shepherd
I lack nothing . . .

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever” (Psalm 23:1, Psalm 23:6).
